The SGV Award

SGV  has established an Award to acknowledge original scientific work that is in accordance with and furthers SGV ’s aims and objectives.  Details of the Award and the procedures to be followed are:

  1. The Award will be known as The SGV Award.
  2. The aim of the Award is to recognise and reward a defined piece of original scientific work on any aspect of laboratory animal science, breeding, housing, husbandry or welfare that could lead or has led to changes or improvements into how animals are utilised in research, testing or education within Europe and that is consistent with SGV ’s aims and objectives.
  3. The Award will be made to coincide with the SGV  Symposium.
  4. The Award will be in the form of a certificate and a monetary prize.
  5. The recipient(s) of an Award will be required to present the results of their work at a platform session at the SGV  Symposium, at which they will also receive the Award.
  6. Nominations may be made by either the individual(s) concerned or by professional colleagues.
  7. A nomination should include a curriculum vitae (including refereed publications) and full details of the scientific work, including any existing publications.  The contribution of the work to the objectives in (2) above should be explicitly described.
  8. Nominations should be sent to the president of the “Ausbildungskommission” or the secretary of SGV and should be made 2 months before the scientific meeting, normally by September 15th a.c. latest.
  9. Nominations will be considered by an Award Panel chaired by the President of SGV  and comprising the members of the SGV  Board.  The Panel may seek further advice as necessary from invited experts or referees.
  10. The Panel will determine to whom the Award should be made by means of a vote.  A simple majority will be required.  In the event of two or more nominations receiving the same number of votes, the Chair (SGV  President) will have the deciding vote.
  11. An Award may not be made if, in the opinion of the Award Panel, no nomination achieves the desired standard.
  12. No reasons will be provided to any nominee not selected to receive an Award.
